Canada Day

I was thinking last night about when was my favourite Canada Day and no question, it was last year. A year ago now I was renting a house in Murray Harbour and we were stripping our house of it's plaster and lath. A lot has happened and we have come a long way in that year, and although it was a slow process, it seems now that the past year went by pretty fast. These are pictures from one year ago today.

Tom, Jennifer, Emily, Bridget and Kipper arrived the day before with their camper trailer. I remember taking this early in the morning when everybody was getting up and ready for the day. Actually it was about 10am so not that early, but hey, we were on vacation and it was Canada Day.

We got it together and headed to the Murray Harbour Community Centre for the lobster lunch and Canada Day festivities. in the back, that's David, Dolly, Tom, Jennifer, Sarah, Janice and James. In front is Bridget and Emily. The house we rented is the red one in the background.

It was a short walk across the bridge and up the hill to the celebration
View as we walked across the bridge. Lobster season ended that day

We got to the Community Centre just as the flag raising was about to start. We sang Oh Canada, with Dolly and David pitching in as best they could.
Then there was a speech, all listening, hungry
Then it was time to eat! Lobsters were $8. I had a hot dog. Not a lobster fan. Dolly and David weren't used to getting a whole lobster on a plate like that. Fun to watch.

When lunch was over we went inside for dessert and tea, and watched live music on the stage.
I don't remember having serious bed head that day, but there it is
When that was done, Sarah got into an egg race

Then it was time to walk back to the house. Danny, Loreen and Betty arrived just as we got to the house.

We got our beach stuff together and headed to Panmure Island Beach. It clouded over a bit but it was a very pleasant afternoon.

That evening Danny put up the tent for he and Loreen to stay in. That was funnier to watch than David trying to find his way into a lobster.

Then it was time to relax and eat again

Canada Day 2010 was a great day. Now it's Canada Day 2011 already. Below is Dolly and I standing at my desk here in the Lincoln office of BVH taken this morning. I want to thank everybody again who last summer helped me to get this project started. Let's plan on getting together at the house next July 1 to celebrate together again. Dolly is coming with us too.
