Insulation and Drywall

Carter went to the house this rainy morning and took the following pictures. The drywall is going up and the spray insulation is installed in the roofs of the old portions of the house.

Looks pretty wet there today.

I will have a concrete step put in across the front of the kitchen, pretty much like it was when I was a kid. I'll figure out exactly where it goes and how many steps, and where the grade line will be once I get there in June. The ground line will be somewhere above the top of the blue water barrier.
I decided just a couple of days ago that the main room in the basement will be finished with 1x6 tongue and groove pine. They have almost all of the east wall done already.
The pine looks great! It will eventually be painted.
The electrical panel is in and the lights are on!

Looking up from the basement out the new back door.
The ceiling of the back hall is drywalled.

Ready for the tub!

I was planning on reusing the original cellar hatch window as the transom over the bathroom door, but Mike discovered that it was too rotten, so Kerras found this one, with its original hardware! This is the first time I've seen it. Looks great, its operable, and will let second hand light into the bathroom from the skylights in the hall.

 Great light
This is the west door between the partially drywalled Dining Room and the Parlour.

That is the doorway to the kitchen at right, and the old built-in china cabinet will now go in this corner, where we used to have the sideboard, which will now be in the kitchen.

 Pretty soupy looking

Thanks once again Carter for the wonderful pictures. It's starting to look done!

Dad's Birthday, 2008

As the house is getting close to being finished (a relative term, since there are many years worth of projects left to do) and ready for future family gatherings, I thought it would be interesting to post some pictures of a past gathering, the last one held at the house in it's original state.

We celebrated Dad's 70th birthday at the house on July 19th, 2008. Dad's birthday was actually the 20th but the 19th was a Saturday.

This was the invitation
We had a full house that day. A lot of family and friends.
