Are you ready for a shock?

Thanks to Lois for sending me these pictures of the house from earlier today. The septic field, tank and well are in, and the beams are under the house, ready to be lifted. It's happening!

Below: Whats left of the pantry

The floor joists don't look too bad
Septic field and top of the tank, replacing that good old outhouse
I've never seen the house sit so straight

The well

I guess it's too late to worry about the grass
Thanks again Lois. It is a shock to see the place this way, but my curiosity was starting to drive me crazy

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD

I'm a day late, but yesterday Dad was 72, and it was Dolly's birthday too!

ROADTRIP

Thursday morning we left Murray Harbour and headed for the bridge. We stopped at the Gateway Village in Borden-Carleton and Dolly shopped.
Dolly of Green Gables

Approaching the middle of the 9 mile long Confederation Bridge that connects Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick
We took a side trip to Caissie Cape to visit Jim and Marcia. This is the view from their cottage

We finally made it to Tom and Jennifer's house in Dieppe.
Hanging out in the back yard

Their house from the street

On the way to dinner we stopped to watch the tidal bore, on the Petitcodiac River in Moncton

Then dinner at St. James Gate
Next morning saying good-bye. Thanks Tom, Jennifer, Emily and Bridget for a great time

Then we headed for Nova Scotia and drove the Sunrise Trail to the Caribou/Wood Islands Ferry back to the Island. This is a church we passed in Amherst

A house I designed in Amherst Shore 10 years ago, and totally forgot about it!
Waiting for the boat at Caribou. We missed this one, the Holiday Island, and had to wait a couple of hours for the next one.
While waiting we explored the wharf

Finally on our way, on the MV Confederation. The trip across lasts 75 minutes

Approaching Wood Islands, PEI

We stopped at the Wood Islands Lighthouse after we got off the Confederation

On our way back to the cottage we drove down Munn Road in Hopefield. It was named after my great-grandfather Ira
At the house one last time before flying back to Lincoln the next day
I want to thank everybody who came to the island and helped out with the project. You don't know how much that meant to me. Thanks to Mom, Dad, Janice, James, Sarah, Lawrence, Betty, Loreen, Danny, David and Dolly.

Next step: CONSTRUCTION

Stay tuned

Wednesday July 7, 2010

David and Dolly went to Panmure Island Beach, while Mom, Dad and I went visiting. We wanted to visit Preston Robertson and tour his museum, but later found out that he moved into a home a few months ago. His house below
So we visited Leon and Heather Buell at High Bank. I hadn't been there in 30 years.

We tried to visit Dianna and Steve, the owners of the house we rented, who are restoring the High bank one room schoolhouse into a cottage, but they weren't home. Beautiful place!
On to Sandy and Arthur's
Mom and Winnie
United Church at Little Sands
Then to Hopefield, where Dad, and many generations of Munn's before him are from. This is the last family house, abandoned in 1978. My grandfather was born in this house. It will be in the ground very soon.
Late that evening Dolly, David and I explored the Harbour, and got totally eaten by mosquitoes

The second dumpster was taken away
The second floor railing is still there

Front bedroom upstairs
The cross beams and king posts in the ceiling are beautiful, so we are going to drywall the walls to the peak and leave them exposed when it's finished
Parlour and Dining Room
Dad organizing his tools in the front downstairs bedroom

The front hall
I taped all of the windows to stabilize the glass for when the house is lifted

We took a little road trip to the Cape Bear Lighthouse, which was at one time a Marconi station. This lighthouse received the first distress call from the Titanic. There is an effort to raise money to save this building. The cliff is eroding and they need to move it very soon or it will topple into the Northumberland Strait.
