CANADA DAY
By late morning a lot more family arrived, including Debby and Murray, Loreen, Danny, Betty and Ralta, and Sandy and Arthur. We had just about 30 people there through the day.
We decided to set up tables down under the maple trees by the old barn foundation. It's about the only place at this point that the ground was level, and the shade was very much appreciated. It was a very hot day.

Then after lunch we surprised Mom with a birthday cake. Her birthday was in April. SURPRISE!!!!

Later in the afternoon, Mike, Dad, Betty, Murray and I took a trip out to Hopefield to see Jimmy Smith's place. This is where Grampy was born in 1909. It has been empty since 1978. I go every year to see the progress of the decline.
You can't even see it anymore from the lane, which actually isn't a lane anymore either.
The Linden tree in front of the house
The house has sunk considerably since last year
It seems that this tree on the east side is holding the house up.
The roof has fallen away from the tree and you can see into the bedrooms upstairs.
All that is left of the big barn are those timbers sticking out of the grass, at right.
The outhouse has even declined greatly in a year.

We then took a look at Hopefield School. It was a challenge to even find it, the trees and brush have grown so thick around it.
Then on to Stewart MacKay's place. His farm was a little west of the school. That house came down a long time ago too.
back at the house...
Dad and Tom looking for something in the "tool" house.
Then in the evening it was time to say good-bye until next time
A sea of red Canada shirts
That's it for Canada Day
